Enhancing Communication Between Faculty and the Student Body
We will strengthen communication between staff and students by establishing an anonymous online form for students to directly ask Faculty questions, lodge student concerns and raise ideas about what they would like to be communicated during meetings between the VP Education and Faculty. To increase transparency, any updates involving Law School and Faculty will be published via the SULS Educations Instagram. We will also establish a general page of Frequently Asked Questions where students can quickly access answers to common questions surrounding degree progression, academic appeal processes, simple extensions and more. Beyond this, we hope to advocate for the continuation of summer and winter intensives in 2027 for the student body, especially for part-time students and those wishing to accelerate their degrees.
Preparing Students for AI Developments
From an internally facing perspective, we will advocate for clearer communication of AI usage guidelines and collaborate with Faculty to run a panel providing greater clarity over academic honesty policies, publish an “AI Usage in Law School” handbook and a workshop demonstrating how to effectively use legal AI software, like Lexis+ and Harvey, within the boundaries of academic honesty, which will all be readily available on the SULS Education Instagram.
From an externally facing perspective, we would like to collaborate with the Careers and Campus portfolios to host a panel with practitioners from various areas to demonstrate how AI is used in the workplace and how students can prepare for it.
Streamlining Educations Resources
We will establish a centralised Educations Google Drive to be accessed via the Educations Instagram page, SULS website and Linktree. This Google Drive will fundamentally hold various Educations materials, including recordings of all subject panels held throughout the year by the SULS Educations Portfolio, the Educations Guide with tips on exam preparation, note taking recommendations and testimonials from high scoring students in each subject, alongside academic honesty policies and wellbeing resources. In particular, we wish to add the “2027 SULS Educations Calendar” onto the Drive, which will include the dates for upcoming Educations events with sign up deadlines clearly labelled, APP session dates, assessment periods, SULS subject survival day and census dates.
Strengthening and Diversifying SULS Educations Offerings
For APP sessions in 2027, we would like to give both students and tutors more notice of the program dates and provide Honours information sessions for tutors. We will also collaborate with the Careers portfolio to bring mentoring opportunities to tutors, and establish a consolidated learning guide to support learning.
For JDIs and LLBIs, we hope to continue running the SULS Educations Law School Basics Event in the coming year. At the beginning of 2027, we will gauge student interest in each of the following events through an EOI form, and use the results to decide which to run.
The first is a “Degree Progression Day”, where students can learn about law school degree progression and book appointment slots to consult Faculty members, alongside LLBV/JDIII students, about their own progression. We also hope to hold a combined networking and Faculty welcome event with the International portfolio, CLSS, KLUS and SEALS, designed specifically for new international students.
In collaboration with the Careers portfolio, we would like to hold a panel outlining USYD’s for-credit work placement opportunities. To increase transparency around international education opportunities, we also plan to run a panel event with Faculty explaining law school exchanges, offshore programs and overseas postgraduate study.
