Keeping events affordable

We will set a ceiling on ticket prices for regular socials and cohort events at the start of each term, so students can plan ahead and know what to expect. If an event cannot be delivered under the ceiling, we will first look at cheaper venues, sponsor support or a scaled-back format before considering a higher price. Proceeds from the investment project will continue to be used to hold down prices on large-ticket events, so cost is never the reason a student misses out.

Open and accountable finances

We will keep members informed through regular financial summaries covering the society’s balance and expenditure, posted in a clear, visual format. Each major event will be followed by a short recap of what it cost and how many attended. Over the year, these updates will show members where their money goes and give future executives reliable benchmarks for budgeting.

Supporting directors with their budgets

We will run a hands-on budgeting session for directors and subcommittees at the start of the term, covering how to build an event budget, estimate ticket sales and track spending throughout the year. The session will walk each team through using the existing portfolio templates, so every budget is built on the same foundations from day one. With a point of contact in Treasury for any questions along the way, this will break down silos and keep spending across the society aligned and transparent. It will also help the whole SULS team plan with confidence and make the handover to the next executive as smooth as possible.
